Buyers guide to choosing a Greenhouse

Winter Gardenz is pleased to offer a brief breakdown of what's what to make your decision simpler and ensure you choose a greenhouse which is perfect for your needs...

What do I want to use this greenhouse for?
The most important question to ask yourself is 'What's it for?' This will help you choose not only the right greenhouse but also will help you to work out the shelving and accessories you'll need. Is it for: growing tomatoes in winter, seedlings, orchids and flowers or native trees? Either way we have a greenhouse to suit you needs. If you are just wanting to grow seedlings and protect young plants then an Easi-Grow is the best option.

What size do I need?
First and foremost check out the space you have available. If you're out in the country with acres then you can fit in the larger Full Bloom Series, but if you are limited in space you may only be able to fit in a Green Thumb. If you are really tight on space we have a range called the Lean-To Series which you can place up against the side of a house or balcony. We have all our dimensions available on this site to assist you with this. Don't forget the site must be level for the greenhouse.

What kind of Greenhouse is best for my weather conditions?
If it gets frosty and cold then it's important to choose a greenhouse with Twin-wall poly carbonate as it will ensure frost wont get to your plants (kind of like double glazing windows), if you're prone to wind then glass just isn't an option as it could shatter. Sunshine and heat are also worth thinking about - and ventilation in summer.

Are there any local restrictions or permits needed?
Generally most councils require a permit for buildings over 10m2. Our largest greenhouse is just under 9m2 so you shouldn't have any problems with any of our models. However we do recommend you check with your local council if you are concerned. Our greenhouses are portable so you can pick it up and move it if and when you move house.

What features and accessories are important to me?
Other factors such as safety, headroom and accessibility are important to consider. Our Green Thumb Series has less headroom than our Full Bloom Series and so suits shorter gardeners. Our Full Bloom Series is ideal for anyone who requires more space as it has two sliding doors which creates a larger entry space. If you have children or pets then it will be important not to have glass which can break and cause hazards. All our greenhouses have UV treated poly carbonate which is safe around children and pets - and you can mow around it without worrying!

What is my budget?
Figure out your budget, determine the amount of money you are going to spend on this project. Settling for something cheaper just because you want a greenhouse right away may end up costing you satisfaction and money in the long run. So many of our customers mention they wish they'd brought a bigger greenhouse as they are very easy to fill!
